Abstract:
The effect of Huffman encoding on a 35t data sample is studied. A 2.2-2.4 compression factor can be achieved with Huffman encoding on this sample. This is compared to a factor of 2 simply running gzip or a factor of 2.4 by repacking the data to store ADC in 12 bits instead of 16 bits and follow on with gzip. The results are expected to depend critically on the information content of the data itself and in particular the level of noise.
